Navigating ‘Work From Home’
Working from home is still a contentious issue. Forced on a lot of employers during the Covid 19 Pandemic, it’s been embraced by many – and rejected by quite a number as well.
From a purely talent acquisition stance, the maths is very simple – if you offer hybrid working options, you’ll attract more applicants.
According to the latest ONS Statistics 44% of UK working adults do some form of working from home. If we assume that many of these people would like to continue working from home (at least part of the time) then it’s a sizeable part of the candidate market.
But what if you can’t offer work from home? What if your business is better served with people in the building? For recruitment purposes, these three simple tips should help.
- Communicate – tell your prospective applicants why it’s important to your business to have people at the premises. Tell them the benefits to them of working closely with colleagues or being in the environment you offer. Why is it better for you, and why is it better for them.
- Sing about your environment! Shout from the rooftops about the team, work environment and culture you’ve worked so hard to cultivate and why it’d be great for them to be part of it.
- Point out all the areas where you can be flexible. If home working is simply not possible for your company, make sure you tell prospective employees of all the ways you’re thinking about work-life balance – maybe your holiday package, sick pay, time in lieu, flexible working times and so on.
